What Cheese Is Traditionally Used in Chicken Cordon Bleu?

The traditional cheese used in Chicken Cordon Bleu is Swiss cheese, but other cheeses such as Gruyere or Parmesan can be used as well.

How Do I Pound Out the Chicken for Chicken Cordon Bleu?

To pound out the chicken for Chicken Cordon Bleu, place the chicken breast between two pieces of plastic wrap or wax paper and use a meat mallet or rolling pin to flatten it to an even thickness.

How Do I Assemble the Chicken Cordon Bleu?

To assemble Chicken Cordon Bleu, place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on top of the flattened chicken breast, then roll it up and secure it with toothpicks. Dip the chicken in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs before frying or baking.

Things to Consider While Making Chicken Cordon Bleu

      • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) before cooking the Chicken Cordon Bleu. This will ensure that it cooks evenly and stays moist.
      • Place the Chicken Cordon Bleu on a wire rack set inside a baking dish. This will allow the heat to circulate evenly around the chicken and help it cook more evenly.
      • Brush the Chicken Cordon Bleu with melted butter before baking. This will help it brown and become crispy.
      • Chicken Cordon Bleu is delicious on its own, but it’s even better with a sauce. Try serving it with a creamy mushroom sauce or a tangy Dijon mustard sauce.
