Can an Air Fryer Replace a Microwave?
To have a better understanding, first, we need to know how these appliances work:
Microwaves function by heating food particles with electromagnetic radiation. It works by sending high-frequency radio waves through a magnetron tube and uses approximately 2,450 megahertz energy for cooking and heating food efficiently.
Alternatively, a high-speed fan circulates hot air inside the chamber of an air fryer, which works on the principle of convection. The moisture from the meals is sucked out by the air, resulting in a crispy coating. It gives the golden-brown crust a deep-fried effect to the meals based on caramelization and the Maillard effect.
Noteworthy Differences Why Air Fryer Is Better Than Microwave:
One can easily see the aesthetic and design differences between both the appliances, but several other significant differences highlight the better work of air fryer:
- Technology: As the air fryer uses rapid air technology, it quickly cooks food evenly from all sides. On the other hand, microwave mainly utilizes electromagnetic waves to prepare food. So, mainly microwaves are suitable for heating food, while air fryers are great for cooking various foods and reheating them.
- Capacity & Compactness: Compared to microwaves, air fryers are smaller in size. Is this to say that air fryers should be avoided at all costs for bulk cooking? Certainly not! Even though air fryers are comparatively smaller, some models have deep chambers that allow bulk frying. An excellent example is the Dash DFAF455GBRD01.
When you differentiate an air fryer from a microwave oven, it’s clear that air fryers are comparatively more compact and lightweight. They do not, however, beat microwaves when it comes to capacity. So, do you want a high capacity or a small design?
- Oil Consumption: Microwave-cooked food calls for more oil to fry food items than an air fryer that requires minimal to no oil. Lessor, no oil consumption in the air fryer, helps avoid various health problems and lethal acrylamide formation.
- Consumption of Power: Power consumption in the microwave is much more than the air fryer.
Should You Replace A Microwave With An Air Fryer?
We’ve gone over all of the advantages air fryer has over microwave so far; now the choice is yours based on your requirements. For me, an air fryer works best as it helps in avoiding unhealthy oils and cooks food quickly, without much mess. Another best thing I like about the air fryer is that it can easily be placed on a counter, giving it an additional advantage in terms of compactness. Air fryers are also very easy to store due to their small size and lightweight construction. But on the other hand, microwave also provides a good deal of functionality. Thus, replacing one appliance with another is critical based on your preferences, taste, and culinary requirements.
