How Long Does It Take to Smoke Chicken Drumsticks?

The smoking time for chicken drumsticks can vary depending on the size of the drumsticks and the smoker’s temperature. Generally, it takes 1.5-2 hours to smoke the chicken drumsticks until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

Should Chicken Drumsticks Be Marinated Before Smoking?

While it is not necessary to marinate chicken drumsticks before smoking, marinating can add extra flavor and moisture to the meat. A simple marinade of olive oil, vinegar, and spices is enough to marinate the chicken drumsticks for a few hours.

Can I Cook Chicken Drumsticks on A Gas Grill?

Yes, you can cook chicken drumsticks on a gas grill. Heat the grill to medium-high heat, then place the chicken drumsticks on the grill and cook for 10-15 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Top Tips to Make the Best-Smoked Chicken Drumstick:

Brine the chicken: Brining the chicken drumsticks in a saltwater solution for a few hours before smoking can help the meat retain moisture and flavor.

Use a dry rub: Apply a dry rub to the chicken drumsticks before smoking to add flavor. You can create a simple dry rub with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Use fruitwood for smoking: Use apple, cherry, or peach for smoking chicken drumsticks, as they give a mild and sweet flavor that pairs well with chicken.

Maintain a consistent temperature: Keep the smoker temperature between 225°F and 250°F to ensure the chicken drumsticks cook evenly.

Baste with butter or sauce: Basting the chicken drumsticks with butter or sauce during the last 30 minutes of smoking can add extra flavor and moisture to the meat.

Serving Suggestion: Smoked chicken drumsticks pair well with various sides, such as coleslaw, baked beans, cornbread, or roasted vegetables.
