How Do We Make Watermelon Sorbet?

Generally, watermelon sorbets are made by freezing a pureé of watermelon sweetened with a simple sugar syrup. While making the sugar syrup is simple, it takes some time to cool and incorporate it into the watermelon puree.

Should I Use a Food Processor or a Blender to Make Watermelon Sorbet?

      Food Processor vs. Blender

While a powerful blender could be used, making this type of sorbet is generally easier with a food processor. Food processors have larger containers, which makes the process much easier.

If you have no other option but to use a blender, you may need to add more liquid to get the ingredients to fall down to the blades, which could result in a slushy texture.

What Should I Do If My Watermelon is Not Sweet Enough?

If you are left with not-so-sweet watermelon or if you prefer a sweeter dessert, you can add a sweetener. You can use any sweetener that you like or are comfortable with. However, in these desserts, maple syrup and stevia work well.

If using a crystallized sweetener (such as granulated sugar), dissolve it in the lime juice first or make a syrup with it. A more traditional type of watermelon sorbet is made by using a simple sugar syrup.

      A Quick Tip

If you prefer a creamier watermelon treat, substitute some coconut milk for the lime juice, or even you can use fresh cream. The end result will be watermelon ice cream!
